A practical starting point for EID readers and weighing equipment that works with ewePro today.
ewePro supports a range of EID readers and weighing hardware, from simple Bluetooth HID devices through to newer BLE-capable equipment. For the smoothest experience, we recommend modern hardware and validated workflows we have tested directly.
Some legacy non-BLE equipment — including older Gallagher gear — may still work through HID / keyboard-emulation mode, but setup and day-to-day support can be more limited depending on the exact model and configuration.
For the best web dashboard experience, we recommend any modern computer built after 2022 using the latest version of Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Microsoft Edge, or Firefox. ewePro supports Linux, macOS, and Windows.
For the absolute best experience, a modern Apple iPhone paired with a modern Apple M-chip Mac (or other current Apple computer) is ideal. That said, we aim to support everything.
Not every producer wants the same setup. Some want the most affordable path to start scanning and weighing, while others want the most durable and best-supported equipment path for regular commercial use.

Gallagher HR0 EID Reader View reader Gallagher W-0 Scale Head View scale head Gallagher load bars or suspension load cell View suspension load cell |
Rugged, scalable hardware for producers who want a more serious scanning + weighing workflow with strong ongoing support. | Validated HID workflow today, with newer BLE-capable Gallagher gear preferred when buying new |
For larger flocks or producers investing in a more durable handling system, we currently recommend the Gallagher ecosystem as one of the best-supported paths in ewePro. If you are buying new equipment, choose newer BLE-capable Gallagher gear where available. Older legacy Gallagher devices without BLE may still work, but often with more limited HID-style behavior.
Gallagher HR0
HR0 is a practical validated option today, and current-generation Gallagher handhelds are a good fit for producers building toward a more advanced setup.

View load cell| Device Type | Status in ewePro | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| EID Readers (Bluetooth HID) | Supported | Most reliable path today for both platforms. |
| Scale Heads (Bluetooth HID output) | Supported | Recommended for current production use. |
| EID Readers / Scale Heads (BLE custom stream) | In Progress | Preferred direction when buying new equipment, but some models still need parser mapping from real device test data. |
Based on common Bluetooth behavior for these models and current ewePro implementation, here is our current best estimate. This table is intentionally conservative and will be updated as we test more hardware directly.
